The Digby Conversion of Saint Paul
PRESENTED BY: Gobbet on the Green from the University of Virginia
DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: Caitlin Hamilton
SYNOPSIS: The Conversion of Saint Paul is an English saint’s or “miracle” play which tells the story of Saul, who sets out for Damascus to suppress Christians, only to encounter Christ at the crossroads. Blinded and confused, he finds himself on a different path, returning to Jerusalem no longer the persecutor but the persecuted. Surrounding Saul’s story are subplots of comedy and spectacle, including two outraged devils and a drunken stable groom. Inspired by original performance conditions, this production will involve the audience in a “progress” through various stations, with the audience seated in the centre of Saul’s circular journey.
